Government schools in Chandigarh reopened on 21st September after remaining shut for almost six months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As per Unlock 4.0 guidelines issued by the Centre and the Chandigarh administration, strict social distancing measures and safety protocols were put in place. Limited number of children of higher classes were called in for 2 hours for clearing of doubts. Social distancing marks were made in schools so students remained at distance of about 2 metres of one another. On day one, low attendance was observed in schools and in some schools not even a single student turned up. The schools had made an arrangement for up to 10 students in each class, however in most schools only 4 to 6 students turned up.
