A 34-year-old Youth Congress leader was shot dead in a major security lapse on Thursday evening by bike-borne assailants in the Faridkot district, and law and order in Punjab just one day after the results of the local body poll were announced.Two unidentified assailants fired about 12 shots at youth leader Gurlal Singh Bhullar while he was standing next to his car near Jubilee Chowk in Faridkot, a police official said. Bhullar was rushed to the nearest hospital but, during treatment, suffered from his injuries. Shocked by the incident, Captain Amarinder Singh, Punjab's chief minister, directed the state police chief to arrest the perpetrators behind the murder.
