      Chandigarh recorded 399 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday pushing the caseload to 29,197.The total number of fatalities reached 388 after two more people succumbed to the virus on Wednesday in the city.

      Chandigarh April 6A scooter rider was killed after being hit by an ambulance at the Sector 39/40/55/56 roundabout. According to the police complainant Vishnu Dev a resident of Sector 56 reported that the scooter being driven by his neighbour Nairan Singh was hit by an ambulance. The victim was injured and rushed to the GMCH Sector 32 where doctors declared him brought dead. Darshan Lal of Mohali district was driving the ambulance. He was arrested and later released on bail.

      Tribune News ServiceChandigarh March 15The Chandigarh Parent Association (CPA) has written to UT Adviser Manoj Parida requesting online conduct of examination at schools in view of a surge in Covid-19 cases. All schools of Chandigarh were earlier closed. However as the Covid situation improved the Education Department decided to conduct offline exams at the government schools and the private schools were also allowed to conduct exams in the offline mode. The appeal sent by association reads: “All government schools and a few private schools have been conducting compulsory offline exams for various classes since the last week of February. While there were 120 active cases in February we have about 1088 active cases of Covid in Chandigarh at present.

      Chandigarh March 7A day after a six-year-old girl was found murdered near the Hallo Majra light point the UT police today added the rape charge to the case. A protest was also staged at Hallo Majra by residents demanding that the suspect should be booked for rape too. A police official said although the postmortem report was yet to be received Section 376 (rape) of the IPC was added to the case. The semi-naked body of the victim was founded dumped in the forest area on Saturday morning around 15 hours after she had gone missing. The footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area led to the identification of the 12-year-old suspect who was seen taking the girl on a bicycle.

Though drunk cyclists are not challaned under the Motor Vehicle Act they are at a greater risk of losing life or getting life altering injury in case of a crash hence this campaign.”
