      Tribune News ServiceMohali May 28A US-based non-profit organisation PATH donated a Covid fast-testing machine (ID Now) to the district hospital here today. Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu after inaugurating the machine said it would be beneficial in providing confirmatory results within six-thirteen minutes. Sidhu said it was an RT-PCR-based portable machine which could easily be taken to villages for testing. Sidhu appreciated PATH's initiative in donating this technology as part of their support to the state of Punjab under the project “Improving Access to COVID-19 Testing in India”. He also motivated them to keep up the good work with passion to save the precious lives of Covid patients.

      Tribune News ServiceChandigarh May 19The Panjab University Covid Task Force constituted by Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar met here today as per the UGC guidelines. The VC expressed concern over increasing Covid-19 cases among the Panjab University fraternity. Prof Kumar also advised the Dean University Instructions and the Registrar to monitor the compliance through various committees under their direct supervision. The VC also suggested exploring possibilities for establishing a Covid care centre at the university level for the welfare and wellbeing of the PU employees. The PU Registrar meanwhile suggested that a certain number of beds in the Covid care centre at the university's International Hostel should be earmarked for the university fraternity in case of emergency.

He said an oxygen monitoring committee was already operational in the district while the newly constituted oxygen audit teams would constantly update the status to the monitoring committee. Teams to work 24X7 Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said the newly constituted oxygen audit teams comprise of three members each - RMO CRO and SHO. She said a Covid sampling centre was already functional at the District Hospital Phase 6 where two sampling teams were engaged in the work.

Field officials get a total of 160 litre fuel per month for their vehicles. The morning drive is carried from April 1 to June 30 to check the wastage of water.       The police said the rashly driven SUV first hit the scooter following which the victim fell on the vehicle's bonnet. The driver kept on driving the SUV and dragged the scooter along for several metres. The SUV then went out of control and hit two trees and a streetlight pole before overturning on a cycle track. The police said the victim was found lying around 20 metres ahead of the spot where the scooter was hit. “The victim was found lying near one of the trees hit by the SUV” said a police official.

Complainant Kailash a resident of Sector 4 reported that the miscreant snatched his phone on the road separating Sector 8 and 9. The police have registered a case at the Sector 3 police station.
