      Chandigarh December 5Two persons reportedly ended their lives by hanging in the city today. In another incident a labourer hanged himself to death at an under-construction building of the Community Centre in Sector 35 where his brother was putting up. Dyal was employed at a construction site in Eco City and was living in Mullanpur. The police said the labourer was under depression following the death of his brother recently. The incident came to light around 8:30 am when workers found Dyal hanging at the Sector 35 site.

    • Chandigarh to introduce Vatika class in govt schools | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Naina MishraTribune News ServiceChandigarh December 4In line with the New Education Policy (NEP) the UT Education Department has started preparations to introduce an additional class before Class I. It will be called the 'Vatika' class. However from the 2021-22 session all government schools will have a pre-nursery class and an anganwadi centre. Alka Mehta Deputy Director of Education Chandigarh said “As per the NEP children who are three years old will get admission to the pre-nursery class in government schools. “The intention behind introducing the 'Vatika' class is to prepare the child coming from anganwadi centre or pre-nursery for Class I with the help of concept building.
    • Sand - laden truck kills mother, daughter in Chandigarh | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      A 43-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were crushed to death under a tipper truck on Airport Road. The victims have been identified as Rajwinder Kaur and her daughter Darweshinder Kaur, who were natives of Bathinda and staying at a rented accommodation in Sector 67.
    • Chandigarh MC scrapes roads in Sector 9 forgets to recarpet these | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Chandigarh December 4Causing much inconvenience to commuters the Municipal Corporation (MC) seems to have forgotten to recarpet roads after scraping a layer of asphalt. However the recarpeting work was yet to be carried out on these roads. Earlier the recarpeting work in the city was hit as the MC had floated tenders in June but failed to get any bidders. The civic body floated tenders again in July following which the recarpeting work was started. Shailender Singh Chief Engineer MC said he would look into the matter and get the recarpeting work done at the earliest.

      Chandigarh December 3To break the chain of coronavirus transmission the UT Administration today declared eight more micro-containment zones in the city. UT Adviser Manoj Parida said the issue of outbreak of Covid-19 was examined by a committee and a considered view emerged that the affected areas be declared as micro-containment zones in the city. The affected areas declared as micro-containment zones are parts of Sector 15 20 29 33-A 38-D 41-B and 46-B and Modern Housing Complex (MHC) Mani Majra.

      Tribune News ServicePanchkula December 3Public parks in Sector 15 are in a pitiable condition as the Panchkula Municipal Corporation has failed to ensure their maintenance through the sector park committee. From damaged playing equipment for children in one park to cars being parked inside another there is apparently no place for recreation. A resident on the condition of anonymity said: “We refrain from letting our children play in a park near our house as slides are broken. The authorities should initiate steps to change the damaged slides to ensure safety of children.”SK Nayar sector resident and the president of the Citizens' Welfare Association said: “Sector 15 is one of the densely populated sectors of the city with a population of over 15000.       In wake of the ongoing row over privatisation of the electricity wing of the UT Engineering Department, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today applied brakes to the move to privatise the functioning of the wing. Taking up a petition filed by the UT Powermen Union, a Division Bench stayed the tendering process regarding privatisation of the wing.

      Chandigarh November 28The city today witnessed 89 new cases of Covid pushing the tally to 17246. The day also saw four deaths due to the contagion taking the toll to 274. A 69-year-old man from Sector 20 a case of type 2 diabetes mellitus died at Alchemist Hospital Panchkula. —TNS96 test +ve in PanchkulaPanchkula: The district on Saturday reported 96 fresh cases of Covid taking the tally to 8615. Meanwhile 176 fresh cases were reported from the district till this evening.

A 57-year-old man from Sector 19 a case of diabetes died at the PGI. A 70-year-old woman from Sector 35 a case of chronic lung disease breathed her last at Command Hospital Panchkula. As many as 69 more patients have defeated the virus.

    • BSF s cycle expedition team reaches Chandigarh | Chandigarh NYOOOZ
      Tribune News ServiceChandigarh November 23The Border Security Force's “Infinity Ride—2020” a cycle expedition traversing the nation from Srinagar to Kanyakumari arrived here today. The expedition is a part of a national campaign to psychologically empower the BSF personnel disabled in the line of duty. As many as 30 cyclists supported by BSF riders and the Aditya Mehta Foundation had commenced their 3842-km journey from Srinagar on November 19 and are scheduled to reach the country's southern tip on December 31. Surendra Panwar Additional Director-General BSF felicitated the team members for their determination and participation in the expedition. He said the BSF had 298 personnel with more than 40 per cent disability.

      Chandigarh November 22The city's minimum temperature dipped to 8.1°C today making it the new lowest November temperature in the past three years. In November last year the lowest temperature was 10.4°C while in 2018 it was 8.7°C. The all-time lowest minimum temperature in November was recorded in the year 1975 when the mercury had fallen to 3.7°C. The year 1970 had seen the highest maximum temperature in the month of November when the mercury had reached 34°C. At 8.1°C the minimum temperature recorded today was a degree less than normal.
